Senator Hughes Announces Over $40 Million for Local Gun Violence Prevention Groups in Pennsylvania

Senator Hughes recently joined Governor Shapiro and other lawmakers to celebrate $40 million that was awarded to community groups who are working at a local level to prevent gun violence.

In Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties, over $24 million was awarded to a number of programs that will specifically work at a local level to keep youth away from gun violence and crime and keep communities safe.

“This is money that’s going directly into communities to prevent gun violence and support important programs that will provide young people with more spaces, education, and opportunities to deter them from any type of crime.”

Senator Hughes worked with fellow Democrats in 2018 to help start the Violence Intervention & Prevention grant program.

Since 2018, over $212 million has been awarded to grassroots groups who are  focused on PREVENTING gun violence.

This money has gone directly to community organizations that actively work every day to fight the gun violence epidemic. These are our friends and neighbors trying to make their communities safer. They are the trusted messengers, the boots on the ground.  And their participation is critical if we are going to be successful in bring peace and safety to our neighborhoods.

Now, Senator Hughes remains committed to working with Governor Shapiro and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to make sure more funds are invested to support this important program! He’ll be fighting for at least $100 million in the next budget to ensure that community groups are able to continue their impactful work.
