Fighting for Investments in Teachers!
Senator Hughes recently brought together a large coalition of lawmakers, teachers, students, education leaders, and advocates to talk about teacher shortages and what we can all do to support new and existing teachers.
This is a call to action. We need more teachers.

$10 Million for Student Teacher Stipends and Fighting for More
Senator Hughes celebrated a new $10 million dollar investment that was led by his legislation. The funds will provide up to $15,000 stipends for student teachers in Pennsylvania. And Senator Hughes said he’ll be fighting for the Governor’s proposed $15 million in this year’s budget.
We Must Do More for Our Teachers
Senator Hughes and fellow advocates also discussed additional investments and change that needs to happen to truly support teachers and change the perception of the profession. Some of those solutions include investing millions more in student teacher stipends, bringing education CTE and dual enrollment programs to more schools around Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, paying teachers more, and ensuring that school environments are safe and supportive for teachers.
The collective fight and the collective work to get more teachers into more classrooms is on. We are implementing solutions like $10 million dollars for student teacher stipends and creating CTE and dual enrollment programs to get high school students excited about careers in education, but we need to do more.

State Democrats and the Governor are currently fighting for historic funding to fix PA’s unconstitutional education system, but those investments will not go far without teachers to support them. We need to help both new teachers who are coming into the profession and teachers who have been teaching for years!
