Senator Hughes announced $1 million in grants for youth jobs programs in the city Oct. 15 at the West Philadelphia Community Center. He was joined by fellow senators, the secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, and leaders from the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN), the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) and Bank of America.

“We believe in you and we’re making this investment in you because we know you can be transformational leaders,” Sen. Hughes said at the press conference.

The grants will be instrumental in helping PYN and UAC expand jobs, training, skill development and mentorship efforts year round. Sen. Hughes is hopeful this can be a model for other programs across the state. Senator Hughes thanked Gov. Tom Wolf for his investment and focus on improving the lives of young Pennsylvanians.
