Senate Republicans Need to Come Back to Work
Senate Democrats are ready to pass the Pennsylvania budget and end the impasse
What to Know
- Pennsylvania’s budget is over 100 days late
- The PA House sent a budget to the Senate, for the second time, last week
- But PA Senate Republicans decided to block a vote by going home
- PA Senate Democrats remain ready to vote
- Schools, county health programs, and individuals who rely on state funding are being starved of funding because Senate Republicans have decided to stall this year’s budget process
We need Senate Republicans to come back to work
Looking for Leadership
Senator Hughes and Senate Democrats have been asking Senate Republicans for months to end the budget impasse. Republicans have the Senate majority, yet we’ve seen very little leadership from them over the past several months.
Senator Hughes and Senate Democrats have been ready to vote and fund the state. We’ve made countless unanswered pleas to Senate Republicans to finish the job, but we will not give up.
Today, all 23 members of the Senate Democratic Caucus shared a letter with Senate Republican leadership demanding that they bring the Senate back to work to finish the budget.
… In response to the House’s efforts, and instead of staying in Harrisburg to vote on SB 160, you sent the Senate home until October 20, 2005. Sending us home without a vote is a slap in the face to the counties, school districts, human service providers, and others who are struggling to navigate this unnecessary, politically motivated impasse. That is unacceptable.
We demand that you call the Senate back to session this week so the Senate can concur on SB 160 and send it to Governor Shapiro for his signature. If put up for a vote, we believe SB 160 will pass with strong bipartisan support…
