With thousands of women and girls each day missing work or school because they can’t afford the rising cost of feminine hygiene products, State Sen. Vincent Hughes is once again partnering with No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit Inc., Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and other community organizations, to collect these items for Philadelphians who struggle to afford them.
“Period poverty has been too long ignored but we’ve begun to make progress on a subject that many people still don’t want to talk about,” Hughes said. “We want to collect these products for people who need them, but we also want to raise the consciousness of the community to bring the issue out of the shadows.”
Hughes and allied groups will collect new, unopened packages of pads, tampons, panty liners, menstrual cups and other personal products on Saturday, September 7 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Center for Advanced Behavioral Health, 4601 Market St., Philadelphia. The drive-up entrance will be off 46th Street (across from the Aldi supermarket).
Those who can’t make it to the donation drive can contribute through No More Secrets’ Amazon Wish List which can be found at SenatorHughes.com
