Here’s what you need to know for today’s election

It’s Primary Election Day! After delays to Pennsylvania’s primary because of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the polls will open in a few minutes at 7 a.m., and remain open until 8 p.m. For those of you who decided to vote by mail, Governor Tom Wolf has extended the deadline to return vote-by-mail ballots until 8 p.m. June 9 in six counties, including Philadelphia and Montgomery counties. Officials say more than 700,000 mail-in and absentee ballots have not been received. That means voters in the 7th Senatorial District will have an additional week to return ballots by mail, however I recommend returning the ballots as soon as possible. Click here to find a list of locations where you can return ballots in the Philadelphia region. You can also drop off your mail-in ballot at your county election office. For Pennsylvania residents outside of the southeastern region, visit votespa.com/county for more information on locations. The governor’s order is a part of a disaster emergency declaration issued in response to the civil unrest in and around some of Pennsylvania’s larger cities. I am heartbroken, but I want to make sure the destruction doesn’t stop us from fighting for a better future. If you did not get a mail-in ballot and are headed to the polls today, we ask that you stay safe, practice social distancing and follow public health guidelines at your polling place. Because of the coronavirus, polling operations have been consolidated and you may have a different polling place than you have gone to in the past. Please be sure to find your polling place before you head out.

Finally, if your ballot was lost, damaged or destroyed, you can vote in person at your polling place on election day using a provisional ballot.
