Over $16 Million to Fix Philadelphia School Buildings

Over $16 Million to Fix Philadelphia School Buildings

Senator Hughes was proud to announce over $16 million dollars for Philadelphia public schools to make repairs and improvements to school buildings. The funds will be used for projects to fix windows, doors, rooves, bathrooms, and a ventilation system.

Time to Fix Philadelphia’s Toxic Schools

Toxic Schools

Facing the potential loss of their homes as the building decayed and unpaid utility bills threatened service, the residents –many of them disabled — appealed to the city in May for a solution. The housing authority negotiated with the owner as lawyers from the Public Interest Law Center vowed to protect residents.

“I’ve toured schools in the city that have leaks, visible mold on the walls, and old, outdated heating and air conditioning equipment. Many of our schools have had to close because it was too hot for anyone to be in the building.

This funding will alleviate a lot of those issues and provide healthier learning environments for our students, teachers, and school administrators.”

The Job is Not Done

Senator Hughes and Students

Senator Hughes has been fighting to fix Pennsylvania’s unconstitutional education funding system for over 10 years. Just this summer, he helped achieve a significant milestone for Pennsylvania’s public education system with an increase of over $1 billion for Pre-K to 12 education funding.

This investment was a historic downpayment to fix Pennsylvania’s education funding system, but the job is not finished. He’s continuing the work to bring more investments to support Pennsylvania students, teachers, and school administrators.
