Tumar is a lifelong Philadelphian and seasoned public servant with 19 years of experience working for the City across three mayoral administrations. He has held roles in operations, policy, legislative, and external affairs. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alexander is known for building lasting, meaningful relationships with community leaders throughout Philadelphia and for always remaining accessible and committed to the people he serves.

Dr. Allen is a lifelong resident of the Overbrook neighborhood with over 30 years of experience leading initiatives that revitalize business corridors, expand housing in low-income communities, and promote positive youth development across the region. He is a seasoned educator and dedicated community activist with a proven track record of helping low-income families improve their quality of life.

Charles Barr is a funeral director and the Community Liaison Director at the Philadelphia Masjid. He also leads Philly United As One, an organization that hosts the annual Day of Serenity—a citywide event honoring the families of gun violence victims. For years, Barr has been deeply involved in grassroots efforts that bring people together to support one another. His work includes feeding the hungry, organizing pop-up services for the unsheltered, hosting recognition banquets, securing jobs for youth, and creating scholarships for high school students.

Keith Bethel is an accomplished hospitality executive and the CEO and founding partner of Triple B Holdings, a Chicago-based hospitality management company he launched in 2021. Prior to this, he held several senior leadership roles at Aramark, including Chief Growth Officer, where he led global growth strategies across 19 countries, contributing to the company’s $17 billion in annual revenue.

Over his three-decade career at Aramark, Bethel oversaw key sectors including Higher Education, Healthcare, and Facilities, and held positions in compliance and operations. In 2023, he was appointed to the board of FS Investments’ FSCO fund, further demonstrating his influence in both the business and financial sectors.

Keith holds both an MBA and a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration from St. Joseph’s University and is a Lindy Institute Non-Resident Distinguished Fellow at Drexel University.

Anthony Brown founded ABRO (Always Be Real Original) in Southwest Philadelphia to empower at-risk youth through the creative arts. ABRO is a non-profit organization that uses music, art, and other creative mediums to provide teens with a positive outlet and support. Brown’s initial observation of teen interest in these areas led to the development of ABRO’s program.

David W. Brown is Executive Director of the Civic Coalition to Save Lives, a citywide initiative uniting over 100 business, philanthropic, and civic organizations to partner with the City of Philadelphia and grassroots groups in addressing gun violence. He also serves as Assistant Dean for Community and Communication at Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication.

A seasoned nonprofit and media leader, Brown has held roles including Executive Director of the West Philadelphia Alliance for Children and General Manager of 900 AM WURD, Pennsylvania’s only Black-owned talk radio station. He is the founder of CommonSoul Communications and has led five advertising and PR firms throughout his 40+ year career.

Norman C. Clark, D.M.D., is a proud graduate of Cheyney State University, one of the nation’s oldest historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), where he majored in chemistry and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1980. For over 30 years, Dr. Clark has dedicated his career to practicing General Dentistry in the Philadelphia area, with a strong commitment to serving the African American community. He has contributed his expertise to the advancement of dental standards through his service on the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry and has been a longstanding member of the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners for over 20 years, helping to ensure excellence and equity in dental care.

Dr. Gilbert Coleman walks in the anointing of an Apostle, serving as Overseer of Freedom Christian Bible Fellowship in Philadelphia, PA, and as Presiding Bishop of Freedom Worldwide Covenant Ministries. After faithfully pastoring Freedom for thirty years, God expanded Dr. Coleman’s assignment—calling him to be a leader of leaders.

David Gould serves as the Chief Diversity and Impact Officer for the Philadelphia 76ers, where he leads the organization’s efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and within the broader community. In this role, he develops and implements strategies that foster a more inclusive culture and drive meaningful social impact initiatives.

As I Plant This Seed was organized in 2012 under the leadership of founder and CEO, Ryan Harris. What started as a simple vision to give back to the community quickly developed into major annual events and weekly programming. As I Plant This Seed consistently services over 500 participants each event and enrolls over 70 kids each program cycle. Ryan’s vision for As I Plant This Seed is to provide youth and families with the resources and skills necessary to change their outlook on life and be equipped and empowered to ultimately choose their outcomes.

Lovett Hines is a legendary music educator, mentor, and advocate for youth in the arts. As Artistic Director of the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts, he has nurtured generations of young musicians, many of whom have gone on to national acclaim. With decades of dedication to jazz education and community enrichment, Hines is a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s cultural and artistic legacy.

Richard M. Gordon IV is Assistant Superintendent for the School District of Philadelphia, following 13 years as Principal of Paul Robeson High School. Appointed in 2012 when the school faced closure, he led a remarkable turnaround—raising graduation rates to 95%, earning “Most Improved High School” in 2017, and removing the school from the state’s list of lowest-performing institutions.

Widely recognized for his leadership, Gordon is the only person in the School District of Philadelphia’s 200+ year history to be named State and National Principal of the Year, earning national honors from NASSP (2021), the National Alliance of Black School Educators (2019), and Education Dive (2017). He has also received numerous civic and professional awards, including the Philadelphia Citizen’s 2022 Citizen of the Year and Lincoln University’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

An educator since 1996, Gordon has held roles as teacher, special education teacher, truancy liaison, and assistant principal. A proud Camden and Philadelphia native, he now serves on the Community Advisory Board of Penn’s Netter Center for Community Partnerships.

Kevin is a dedicated servant leader, known for his integrity, faith, and lifelong commitment to uplifting others. A proud member of Pinn Memorial Baptist Church, he serves in multiple roles including trustee, deacon, co-chair of the Men’s Fellowship, and as a member of the Pastor’s Council. A Master Mason of Prince Hall Corinthian Lodge #114 and active with Chapter 12 Umpire Association/PIAA, Kevin leads with purpose in both spiritual and civic circles.

A retired Penn Medicine employee, Kevin continues to mentor young men, helping them navigate life’s challenges with strength and responsibility. He is a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life reflects the endurance and faith found in his favorite book of the Bible—Job.

 

Jordan King serves in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, where he plays a key role in the Juvenile Diversion Unit. In this capacity, he is dedicated to providing young people with alternatives to incarceration, aiming to reduce recidivism and promote rehabilitation through community-based solutions. A passionate advocate for justice and equity, Jordan works to build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve, making a lasting impact on Philadelphia’s youth and legal system.

As a dedicated Recreation Leader with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, CJ brings energy, creativity, and a deep commitment to community service. Whether leading youth programs, supporting seasonal events or helping to maintain welcoming spaces for all residents, CJ exemplifies the spirit of public service. With a passion for recreation and youth engagement, CJ is a leader making a meaningful impact across the city.

 

Akeiff Staples and Brent Johnstone co-founded FathersRead365 to promote literacy and positive male engagement in communities long impacted by disinvestment. After working in the juvenile justice system, they saw firsthand the links between incarceration, illiteracy, and the absence of male role models. Determined to intervene early, they began reading to children in Philadelphia schools and childcare centers—often as the only male volunteers.

Their goal is simple but powerful: make it common for fathers and father figures to read with their children. As their movement grew, they began training dads in active reading, often transforming hesitant participants into enthusiastic advocates.

Despite early financial hurdles, the pair gained momentum through coaching from the Nonprofit Finance Fund, allowing them to focus full-time on their mission. Today, they recruit fathers, distribute books, and share their story through a documentary—all with the aim of fostering literacy and preventing future incarceration.

“We’ve always believed there’s a better way,” says Johnstone. “Justice means investing in our children before they end up in the system.”

Willie Jordan is Director of Operations for Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes and serves as Philadelphia’s 44th Ward Leader and a member of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee. A lifelong Philadelphian, Jordan began his political journey delivering campaign literature for local legends like Congressman Robert Nix Sr. and activist Cecil B. Moore.

With decades of experience, he has played key roles in numerous political campaigns, including those of Chaka Fattah and Vincent Hughes. Jordan earned his degree in business administration and finance from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences.

Deeply committed to community service, he is a founding member of the Educational Advancement Alliance and serves on several boards, including CORE Scholarships and Haddington Multi Services for Seniors. His legacy reflects a lifelong dedication to public service and civic leadership in West Philadelphia.

Archye Leacock is the founder and executive director of the Institute for the Development of African American Youth (IDAAY), a nonprofit that has supported at-risk youth in Philadelphia through education and employment since 1991. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Leacock immigrated to the U.S. in 1972 and, despite losing his sight, dedicated his life to public service and youth empowerment.

While pursuing his PhD at Temple University, Leacock noticed a lack of minority students in his classes and began tutoring local teens on Saturdays. What started with seven students quickly grew into hundreds, revealing a deep community need. That effort became IDAAY, which today operates in one of Philadelphia’s most underserved neighborhoods, offering young people a path away from violence and toward opportunity.

Larry C. McCrae is a respected electrical contractor and founder of Larry C. McCrae Inc., a specialty contracting firm based in Glenside, Pennsylvania. With decades of experience, Mr. McCrae has played a pivotal role in revitalizing Philadelphia’s infrastructure, contributing to major projects through his expertise in preconstruction pricing, design, and value engineering. His commitment to excellence and community development has made him a trusted leader in the region’s construction industry.

 

Rev. Leroy Miles serves as Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, Philadelphia’s largest Black congregation. A devoted faith leader, entrepreneur, and health advocate, Rev. Miles brings over 25 years of experience as founder of Miles Insurance Agency, blending spiritual guidance with a mission to strengthen families and address health disparities in the Black community.

Motivated by personal loss to heart disease, Rev. Miles champions equitable healthcare through partnerships with hospitals and public agencies, including Penn Medicine’s “Know Your Numbers” campaign. A certified health coach and board member of the American Heart Association – Philadelphia, he has also spoken at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation on health issues impacting African Americans.

His advocacy extends globally, organizing health expos in Africa and South America, driven by a belief that Black health is a global concern. “Through Enon, I’m proud to spread the gospel of good health and push for systems that uplift underserved communities,” he affirms.

Anton Moore is a South Philadelphia native, community activist, and media professional dedicated to uplifting his neighborhood. As founder and president of Unity in the Community, he has spearheaded initiatives that address violence, promote education, and create opportunities for youth — including the Unity Carpentry Academy, which teaches trades to teens at risk. A former BET producer and current freelance TV professional, Anton has been recognized by CBS News, Billy Penn, and Governor Tom Wolf for his leadership and impact across Philadelphia.

James L. Morse is a respected leader and pillar of the Philadelphia community, known for his decades of compassionate service in the funeral care profession. In 1955, he established the James L. Morse Funeral Home, Inc., located in West Philadelphia, with a mission to provide dignified and personalized funeral services to families during their times of greatest need.

Through more than sixty years of service, Mr. Morse built a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and heartfelt care, offering support and guidance to countless families across Philadelphia and beyond. His work has been especially meaningful to the African American community, where his dedication has created a lasting legacy of trust and comfort.

Mr. Morse’s commitment to excellence extended beyond his funeral home’s doors; he served as a mentor to younger generations entering the funeral service profession and advocated for standards of service that prioritized compassion, respect, and cultural sensitivity. Today, the James L. Morse Funeral Home continues his legacy, upholding the values and traditions he so firmly established.

Mr. Morse’s lifelong dedication to service, community, and professionalism has left an indelible mark on the city he has faithfully served.

Taj Murdock is the CEO and Founder of The Empowerment Achievement Movement Inc. (T.E.A.M. INC.) and the creator of Men Of Courage, a mentorship program serving young men ages 12–18 with a mission of “Empowerment Through Exposure.” Since its founding in 2015, the program has maintained a 100% high school graduation rate and 0% incarceration rate among its participants.

A respected community leader, mental health advocate, and motivational speaker, Taj has also been a professional barber and stylist for 30 years, working with clients such as Rasheed Wallace, Scottie Pippen, Boyz II Men, and Bow Wow. His advocacy includes close work with Black Men Heal, promoting therapy and emotional wellness for men of color.

Taj was honored with the Mayor’s PHILLY Hero Award in 2020 and has received multiple recognitions from organizations such as Nu Phi Beta Sigma and the Philadelphia Office of Violence Prevention for his dedication to uplifting young Black men. He believes that reshaping the identity of Black men is essential to transforming Black families and communities.

Captain Lawrence Nuble is the Commanding Officer of the 19th District of the Philadelphia Police Department, with over 25 years of combined military and law enforcement experience. A U.S. Army Reserve veteran and graduate of the Military Police Academy, he joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 1998 and has since served in various roles, including Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Executive Officer. His career includes key assignments in patrol, investigations, and the Narcotics Strike Force. Deeply committed to public service, Captain Nuble is known for his focus on community engagement, youth mentorship, and fostering strong relationships between law enforcement and the neighborhoods he serves.

Ernest Owens is an award-winning journalist, author, and CEO of Ernest Media Empire, LLC. As the Political Writer at Large for Philadelphia Magazine, he provides in-depth coverage of the city’s political landscape. He also serves as the President of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists and Regional Vice President of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Mid-Atlantic Chapter).

Owens is known for his candid commentary on race, LGBTQIA issues, and pop culture. He hosts the podcast Ernestly Speaking! and Philadelphia City Council Live on WURD Radio. His book, The Case for Cancel Culture, was published by St. Martin’s Press. Owens holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. from USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

Troy Patham is a seasoned actor, screenwriter, author, and entrepreneur for over several decades. In addition to his role as Vice President of SEPTA Transit Police, he is the co-owner of Small House Publishing with Susan Charli and Twiintone Entertainment, which he runs alongside his twin brother, Trevor.

In 2022, Troy became an assistant instructor and mentor for the Philadelphia Film Factory’s Take One youth film mentorship program. He also contributed his acting talents to two of the program’s films. In recognition of his outstanding dedication and leadership, he received the prestigious Above and Beyond Achievement Award in 2024.

Continuing his involvement in film education, Troy went on to serve as an assistant instructor for Philm Factory’s Intro to Filmmaking class for adults, where he also took on the role of executive producer for the class film, “Hosts.”

Derrick Pratt Sr., a Mantua native, is the manager of Community Connectors at People’s Emergency Center CDC, the founder/owner of PC Radio Live, and a co-founder of We Embrace Fatherhood. He’s organized community events from criminal record expungements to health, fitness, and sports clinics. During his podcast episode, he talks about his grandmother having been a block captain, his mother organizing block parties, the power and potential of youth in Philadelphia.

Officer Robbins was born and raised in the Frankford section of Philadelphia and is a proud graduate of Frankford High School (2006). Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he currently serves as a Master Sergeant (E-7) and NCOIC of heavy equipment with the 512 Civil Engineer Squadron at Dover Air Force Base.

A graduate of elite Air Force programs including S.E.R.E. and Airman Leadership School, Robbins also served with SEPTA Paratransit and the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, earning certifications in Emergency Response and Assault Management. Since 2021, he has served as a Philadelphia Police Officer with specialized training in urban tactical response, bike patrol, and dirt bike enforcement.

Michael Robinson, M.S. is Director of the Community Hiring Initiative at Temple University, where he leads workforce development efforts and produces Philadelphia’s largest annual citywide job fair, along with the East Coast’s largest law enforcement hiring event. He also manages the New Choices NOW career readiness workshop series.

Beyond Temple, Michael serves as Senior Pastor of Greater Enon Missionary Baptist Church and has chaired the District Attorney’s Youth Aid Panel, supporting expungement for first-time juvenile offenders. A respected leader across faith, education, and workforce sectors, he is recognized for his impactful service to both community and career development.

Jerome Shabazz is a leading environmental justice advocate and educator based in Philadelphia. He is the founder and executive director of JASTECH Development Services, Inc., and the Overbrook Environmental Education Center (OEEC), organizations dedicated to promoting public health, sustainable design, and environmental stewardship in urban communities.

With a background in environmental protection and safety management, Mr. Shabazz has led initiatives to remediate brownfield sites, implement green infrastructure, and provide environmental education to thousands of students and residents. His work has garnered recognition from the EPA, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and the Philadelphia City Council.

In addition to his nonprofit leadership, Mr. Shabazz serves on several advisory boards, including the EPA’s National Environmental Justice Advisory Council and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Citizens Advisory Council. He is also an adjunct professor at the Community College of Philadelphia and Penn State University, where he continues to educate and inspire future leaders in environmental justice.

For over 30 years, Steven Sanders has been a leader in the emerging manager investment industry, honing his skills in leadership, investment, and entrepreneurship. In 2008, he founded Beltraith Capital to acquire and grow small to mid-sized institutional investment firms. Under his leadership, Beltraith successfully expanded assets under management to over $2.3 billion through strategic acquisitions and mergers, including Stoneridge Investment Partners and the formation of EmStone Advisers, LLC.

Mr. Sanders has also made significant contributions as a financial commentator on national networks like CNBC, Bloomberg, and CNN, and co-hosted Financial Voices on 900AM WURD. A partner at Raynes & Lawn, he has secured numerous seven-figure recoveries for his clients, demonstrating a commitment to justice and excellence in the legal field.

Mr. Smalley is a Fellow of both the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers. His leadership roles include serving as President of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and receiving accolades such as the Justice Michael A. Herbert Smith Jr. was born August 22,1948 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Overbrook High School in 1966. He joined the Marine Corps immediately after graduating. He served in Vietnam as member of the 3rd marine corps combat unit. He has received numerous accolades for his time spent in the military. Most recently he was selected to be an honoree for being a member of labor union local 57. He has been a member 50 years. His last position was a Labor foreman with Dan Lepore and Sons where he was a part of the team that built several significant buildings throughout the city including the Comcast building on 16th and JFK.

With a deep commitment to public safety and restorative practices, Stewart is recognized as a bridge-builder and changemaker, tirelessly working to uplift and transform lives across the city.

Mungu Sanchez began his political journey in his early 20s as a staffer for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, where he discovered a deep passion for advocacy and community empowerment. Now serving as Deputy Political Director for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, Mungu has dedicated decades to grassroots organizing, civic engagement, and policy work aimed at opening doors to opportunity. A proud Philadelphian, he continues to champion social and economic equity through political action and strategic coalition-building.

Jamaaladeen Tacuma is a Grammy-nominated bassist, composer, and producer renowned for his innovative contributions to jazz, funk, and avant-garde music. Rising to prominence in the 1970s as a key member of Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time band, Tacuma became known for his bold, genre-blending style and commanding stage presence. A native of Philadelphia, he has since led numerous solo projects, collaborated with artists across genres, and championed creative music through his “Outreach Festival” and community engagement. Darryl Thomas is the owner of Philly Cuts, a beloved barbershop on Chestnut Street in West Philadelphia that he has operated since 1997. More than just a neighborhood business, Philly Cuts has become a trusted community hub under Thomas’s leadership—a space where conversations about politics, social issues, and local pride are as common as haircuts.

Known for his steady presence and deep-rooted commitment to the community, Thomas views his barbershop as “a meeting place for people of good will.” Over the years, he has cultivated Philly Cuts into an intimate platform where residents and elected officials alike can engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of their city and state.

Thomas’s vision and authenticity have made him a respected voice in West Philadelphia, often drawing local leaders, journalists, and advocates to his shop—not only for grooming, but for connection and civic engagement.

Rahim Thompson is a community leader, author, and founder of Philadelphia’s nationally recognized Chosen League, a premier high school summer basketball program. Over two decades, he has elevated the league to unprecedented heights, securing over $2 million in corporate sponsorships and showcasing more than 4,000 athletes—over 200 of whom went on to play Division I basketball, with several reaching the NBA and winning championships.

He is also the co-founder, with his wife Tanisha, of the Team Thompson Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to supporting families in need. A devoted husband and father of two daughters, Thompson is the author of the self-published Amazon bestseller Choose Wisely, No Matter the Odds, which topped the Basketball Biography charts and has sold over 1,000 physical copies.

Kevin has worked with young people for many years and has always had a vision to encourage people in his community to read. He is a graduate of Strawberry Mansion High school, and later on attended Cheyney University. For over 13 years Kevin has worked with the troubled youth, and has seen the need for guidance. His mother has always encouraged him to help and guide the young males into the right direction. In her honor he decided to transform the bar once operated and owned by his mother into a Community Learning Center. The Strawberry Mansion Community Learning Center is a positive resource that is dedicated to helping others and making the Strawberry Mansion area a better place.

 

Gerald Veasley is a renowned jazz bassist, composer, and educator from Philadelphia. He gained national recognition playing with Grover Washington Jr. and Joe Zawinul, and launched a successful solo career in the 1990s. Veasley has released several acclaimed albums and performed with artists like Dianne Reeves, McCoy Tyner, and Philip Bailey.

Beyond performance, he’s a passionate educator and co-founder of Bass BootCamp, which has trained hundreds of bassists globally. As president of Jazz Philadelphia, he works to uplift the city’s jazz scene and support emerging talent.

Derrick E. Wood is the Chief of Police for the University of Pennsylvania Police Department, bringing over 27 years of leadership experience in law enforcement, including roles as Police Inspector with the Philadelphia Police Department and Chief of Police in Norristown. Committed to community-focused policing, he works to ensure safety, transparency, and trust across campus and surrounding neighborhoods. Outside of his official duties, Chief Wood is an active mentor and advisor to local youth programs, community organizations, and violence prevention initiatives, reflecting his deep commitment to service both in and beyond his role in law enforcement.

Officer Jesse Woodhouse dedicated 24 years to the Philadelphia Police Department, serving as the Community Relations Officer in the 16th Police District. Renowned for his commitment to fostering trust between law enforcement and residents, he organized safety initiatives, community events, and youth engagement programs. His approachable nature and dedication to service earned him widespread respect. Officer Woodhouse’s legacy continues to inspire efforts in community policing throughout Philadelphia.

While continuing the legacy of his father and uncle, Khdir Abdur-Rahim spearheads the African Cultural Art Forum (ACAF). A staple in the community, ACAF was started in 1969 to support economic and educational growth in the Philadelphia community. Their housemade natural body products, incense and oils are sold in grocery stores around the city. In recent years, ACAF has created a digital media platform that hosts a successful podcast. ACAF is currently in the process of purchasing equipment for the production of a soap line that will further aid our efforts to create jobs, and train youth for the economic development of the African diaspora, by manufacturing, distributing and networking.

Marquise Barksdale is a driven and purpose-filled senior at Mastery Charter Simon Gratz High School, known for his deep commitment to community service and personal development. Actively engaged in his church and local initiatives, Marquise exemplifies the values of leadership, integrity, and compassion. He recently completed the Urban League’s Empowered4TheFuture Google Digital Marketing Certification Program, demonstrating his determination to build a strong foundation for future success. With a clear vision and unwavering dedication, Marquise stands out as an emerging leader, ready to make a lasting impact in his community and beyond.

Zahmir is a rising educator and committed community leader currently engaged with the One Soul Future Black Male Educators Program, where he is cultivating his passion for teaching and mentorship. Deeply invested in service, Zahmir volunteers each month organizing a food pantry at Parkway West High School, ensuring families have access to essential resources. He also works at a local childcare center, where he continues to grow as an educator, developing his skills in nurturing, teaching, and inspiring young minds. Zahmir is driven by a desire to uplift his community and create positive change through education and service.

Leroy is an African American Studies teacher at Belmont Charter High School. His positive impact on the students and the school community is shown by the meaningful interactions between him and the students, fellow teachers as well as families. Leroy motivates the students to work to their fullest potential in and outside of the classroom by challenging them in ways that reach beyond their comfort zones. He continues to show up in a positive manner day in and day out while making it a point to lead by example.

Andre Chaney is a Philadelphia-based visual artist, author, muralist and illustrator whose work empowers and uplifts marginalized communities through vibrant storytelling and potent imagery. Specializing in painting, drawing, and graphic design, Chaney has illustrated multiple children’s books that promote education, development, and cultural pride. His murals and artworks—featured in schools, libraries, and on platforms like The Kelly Clarkson Show—blend realism and impressionism to explore African American experiences, folklore, and community narratives. A graduate of California College of the Arts, Chaney continues to make a lasting impact by using art as a tool for connection, education, and social change.

Philip Collier is a standout senior at Paul Robeson High School, known for his leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to service. A top 10 student in his class, Philip balances his rigorous studies with athletics as a member of the track and field and basketball teams. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and has served as a mentor and academic tutor for underclassmen. Philip also participated in the Robeson/Cobbs Creek Summer Enrichment Program, where he led lessons on sustainable drinking water. For the past two years, he has worked as a youth counselor with the Netter Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Philip is a dedicated young leader with a passion for making a positive impact in every community he touches.

 

Khai’e Davies is a dynamic student leader currently serving as Vice President of the student body at the historic Cheyney University. A proud graduate of Lankenau Environmental Science High School, Khai’e has always exemplified drive, discipline, and initiative—qualities reflected in his accomplishments as a track athlete, honors student, and engaged campus leader. Majoring in Education, he is deeply committed to shaping future generations and uplifting his community. Khai’e has also gained valuable experience through his work with the Office of Senator Vincent Hughes and his volunteer efforts with Read2Succeed, further demonstrating his passion for civic engagement and educational equity. With a heart for service and a vision for impact, Khai’e continues to lead with purpose and integrity.

Keith Dawson is a selfless, dedicated and intentional member of our community. While anyone can possess these characteristics, not everyone has the drive to utilize them as a priority to help others. The Keith Dawson Foundation was created from a life changing call about Keith’s father who was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. Keith and his family work around the clock to provide resources to those in need and to raise awareness about key health issues and resources within the Black community. On top of running the Foundation, Keith owns a Gym located in North Philadelphia, serves as a mentor across different age groups and is an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. where he bridges the gap between various organizations in Philadelphia to serve together.

Myrell Givens-Billups is a standout senior at Vaux Big Picture High School whose passion for photography and visual storytelling reflects both creativity and purpose. With a keen eye for capturing powerful narratives through the lens, he continues to hone his craft while expanding his professional skillset. Most recently, Myrell completed the Urban League’s Empowered4TheFuture Google Digital Marketing Certification Program, where he deepened his knowledge of branding, strategy, and digital communication. As a rising creative voice and innovative thinker, Myrell embodies the promise and potential of Philadelphia’s next generation of visionary talent.

Tamir D. Harper, a proud Southwest Philadelphia native and graduate of the School District of Philadelphia, is a nationally recognized education advocate and nonprofit leader. He is the founder of UrbEd Incorporated, a Philadelphia-based advocacy organization dedicated to educational equity, which he led for five years before passing the torch to a new generation. Tamir currently serves as the Director of Development & External Affairs at Philadelphia Academies Inc., where he leads strategic partnerships and growth initiatives. His career spans roles as a senior political aide, community organizer, and former educator, all grounded in his commitment to sustainable change and service. A former chair of the Philadelphia Youth Commission, Tamir holds degrees from American University and the University of Pennsylvania and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy. His work has been featured in national outlets such as The Washington Post, GMA3, and The Philadelphia Inquirer, reflecting his deep impact on education and community advancement.

Emile has been actively serving in many capacities throughout his community all his life. Anything surrounding Black excellence, Ministry and youth, Emile is there and ready to serve. Emile teaches History at the Pennypack House School- a school that provides educational programming for incarcerated persons detained in the five county correctional facilities. He is passionate about educating people of all ages about History as a whole, but specifically the history of Black people and how we can use it to shape our future. Emile graduated from Temple University where he became a valued member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Through many trials and tribulations, Emile has evolved into a multifaceted, willing and able, stand up citizen of Philadelphia who embodies teachings of many Black activists who came before us.

Saamir is one of Roxborough High’s most accomplished students. He is regarded as a focused, model student athlete who also serves as a student ambassador. Saamir most recently became a recipient of the Pennsylvania DECA State Conference Competition’s Top 5 Modeling Award and received a medal in his honor. Saamir is a dedicated, respectful peer who supports putting in the hard work to get the results you wish to see.

Nyjay is a student at Walter B. Saul High School and  is an active and dedicated member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), a premier youth leadership organization for students passionate about agriculture. Through his involvement with FFA, Nyjay has embraced numerous opportunities to grow as a leader and deepen his knowledge of the natural world. He has proudly represented his chapter at various wildlife competitions, where he has demonstrated his skills in leadership, environmental analysis, animal handling and judging. His enthusiasm, commitment, and hands-on experience highlight his passion for agricultural science and his drive to make a meaningful impact in the field.

Robbie Long is a visionary event curator and community organizer who has been a dynamic force in the Philadelphia community for over a decade. As the founder of Live 24HRS, he leads a powerhouse production company that brings events to life—from concept to completion—while fostering deep community connections and driving meaningful social change. Robbie’s influence extends globally, as he travels the world creating bridges between creators, entrepreneurs, and transformative opportunities. His work champions corporate social responsibility, fuels cause-driven marketing campaigns, and inspires grassroots activism. With an unwavering commitment to impact and innovation, Robbie continues to be a catalyst for empowerment and progress.

Throughout his time at West Philadelphia High School, Nathan has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, determination and the highest regard for his academic achievement. His academic prowess has garnered him a reputation amongst his faculty as ‘intellectually curious about his education and future’, through the words of his Dance teacher who has also taken a personal interest in supporting him. He is extremely principled about service to his community as an Alpha Man of Tomorrow (Amot) at WEST Philadelphia High School. Through his involvement with AMOT he has provided servant leadership to various community based organizations such as The Netter Center, The Philadelphia Food Trust, the West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, and the R. W. Brown Community Center in Mantua. Beyond his academic and athletic achievements, Nathan is a person of integrity, compassion, and resilience who continues to go above and beyond to support his peers and contribute positively to the school community.

Damond Lowe is a youth detention counselor for the City of Philadelphia, serving at the Juvenile Justice Services Center. Drawing from his own lived experience as a once-troubled teen, Damond brings a unique, empathetic approach to his work—connecting with young people through authenticity, resilience, and understanding. His journey fuels his commitment to guiding youth toward accountability, growth, and brighter futures. A powerful advocate for second chances, Damond uses his story to inspire change and foster hope within the juvenile justice system.

Tariq Moore is a dedicated community leader and founder of Do Moore Good, a nonprofit organization committed to restorative justice and crime prevention in Philadelphia. As a recreational outreach worker with the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department, he launched the Philly SAFE program—Service, Agriculture, Financial literacy, and Entrepreneurship—to empower young men aged 13 to 18 with practical skills and positive alternatives to violence. A proud West Philadelphia native and former collegiate basketball player at Bryn Athyn College, Moore is passionate about building inclusive, community-driven solutions that uplift and inspire the next generation.

Nafees Norris discovered his passion for science during a challenging chapter of his life, sparked by a transformative lab course at Neumann University. Rising above adversity, he made history as the first African American to graduate with a degree in Biopharmaceutical Process Engineering. Today, as the founder and CEO of Nafees Innovations Academy, Mr. Norris is dedicated to breaking barriers in STEM by making science education accessible, inclusive, and empowering for underrepresented youth. His mission-driven work continues to inspire the next generation of diverse scientists, innovators, and changemakers.

 Senzwa Ntshepe is a DEI strategist, technologist, and community convener dedicated to advancing equity through innovation. He is the president and CEO of The Connect, an organization focused on retaining, attracting, and supporting Black and Brown talent in Philadelphia by providing access to social, professional, and community resources. A two-time founder, Ntshepe co-created Elivade, a networking platform for professionals of color, and Edclusion, a transparency tool for marginalized student experiences. With a background in UX research and organizational change management, he leverages technology to address systemic inequities. Ntshepe is committed to empowering individuals and his mission is to serve as a conduit for collective progress across communities of color.

Andre Nugin, a senior at KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy, exemplifies the values of leadership, integrity, and cultural pride. As a role model to his siblings and peers, he holds himself and others to high standards. Andre is active in the Upward Bound program and volunteers regularly at Sayre Recreation Center while helping care for his younger siblings. Guided by the belief that “education is key,” he plans to study Biology at Widener University to pursue a career in neurology. His combination of academic determination, community service, and social consciousness makes him not just a student leader today, but someone poised to create meaningful, lasting change in the tradition of Malcolm X’s advocacy for empowerment and community upliftment.

Nelson Okeke is a shining light at Overbrook High School where he served as the 2024 Student Government President. Mr. Okeke has maintained a GPA of 3.8 and above during his time at Overbrook and has dedicated countless hours to beautifying the campus and advocating for improved educational resources. He is the captain of baseball, football and drumline and has successfully participated in the Senior Year Only Program, Digital Media, and University of Pennsylvania’s Upward Bound Program. After graduating from Overbrook High School, Nelson plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Design Engineering.

Naseem Perez exemplifies the leadership, resilience, and community spirit of West Catholic High School. As a school ambassador and basketball team member, Naseem uplifts his peers and fosters dialogue around the experiences of Black males. Mr. Perez leads meaningful conversations on empowerment and identity and continues to be academically driven and committed to service. He is passionate about creating a supportive environment for all students and is a force for positive change.

Makkah Peterson is a standout junior at Lankenau Environmental Science High School, known for his leadership, professionalism, and dedication to community. As a key tech support resource, Makkah supports both staff and students with his technical expertise and problem-solving skills. He also serves as the voice of the school, delivering daily announcements, events and news and has career aspirations in the field of communications. Respected by peers and faculty alike, Makkah leads with kindness, collaboration, and integrity.

Chris defines his work mostly as an educator and cultural worker from Chester, PA, and holds with pride the more than a decade of personal experience supporting justice-oriented arts, culture, and community in the Greater Philadelphia area. Chris co-coordinates the Friends of The Tanner House, incubating a revitalized Henry Ossawa Tanner House at the intersection of Black heritage preservation and community cultural organizing. Chris supports aspiring movement leaders serving communities most impacted by poverty, policing, and mass incarceration. He has previously served in key roles with National Black Lives Matter At School, Paul Robeson House & Museum / West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Philadelphia Student Union, Teacher Action Group Philadelphia, and more.

During his four years at West Philadelphia High School, Amiata has consistently demonstrated exceptional hard work, diligence, and a genuine thirst for knowledge, setting him apart as a truly outstanding young man. His academic achievements, culminating in his induction into the honor society, speak volumes about his commitment to his studies. He was elected Student Body President by his peers and exemplifies respect and trust within the school community. Mr. Sacko is an exceptionally bright, hardworking, and well-rounded individual who embodies the values of scholarship, leadership, and service to his community of West and Southwest Philadelphia.

Alfousseyni Sangre is an exceptional student at Science Leadership Academy Beeber whose unwavering dedication to academic excellence and community engagement sets him apart. As an enthusiastic participant in the Urban League of Philadelphia’s Project Ready Mentor Program, he proudly represented the organization’s youth at the prestigious National Conference in Houston. With a deep passion for information technology, business, and finance, Alfousseyni consistently strives for excellence, inspiring those around him. His drive, intellect, and leadership potential make him a standout among his peers and a promising force in the next generation of changemakers.

Bryce is a motivated senior at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber, known for his analytical mindset and deep commitment to making a positive impact in his community. As a standout participant in the Urban League of Philadelphia’s Project Ready Mentor Program, he proudly represented ULP youth at the National Conference in New Orleans. His ambition and professionalism also earned him a competitive internship with Munich Re. Beyond his academic and professional achievements, Mr. Sime is actively involved in community service initiatives, consistently demonstrating leadership, integrity, and a passion for excellence. He exemplifies the promise of a future changemaker dedicated to service and success.

Nisiar Smith is the founder of Courtside Wealth Partners, a financial advisory firm dedicated to helping athletes and entrepreneurs build long-term financial success through education and empowerment. With over a decade of experience in banking, Nisiar recognized the urgent need for personalized financial guidance in underserved communities. His work centers on advancing financial literacy, closing wealth gaps, and ensuring clients have the tools to make informed decisions. Through Courtside, he continues to champion economic advancement and equity for high-achieving individuals and the communities they impact. Mr. Smith is also the Founder and Chairman of Philly Phinancial Literacy Week, a 501c3 focused on providing financial education and wealth building strategies to communities that have been historically excluded from traditional financial systems.

Zion Sykes is a recent graduate of The Pennsylvania State University’s Schreyer Honors College, where he earned dual degrees in Global & International Studies and Political Science, complemented by minors in Chinese and Spanish. During his time at Penn State, Zion served as Student Body President, representing more than 45,000 undergraduates and championing student advocacy by addressing their needs and priorities.His passion for service and leadership is reflected in a range of experiences, from interning with Senator Hughes’ office to working in Tokyo through the Penn State Global Perreault Fellows Program. Zion’s academic and extracurricular pursuits have given him a broad perspective on global issues and a deep commitment to community engagement. As he looks ahead, he aims to apply these lessons and skills in a career in government or politics at the state level, with the ultimate goal of making a meaningful impact through public service.

Kellan White is a strategic adviser at Groundwork Strategies, where he guides clients through complex political and regulatory landscapes to achieve impactful results. A seasoned political strategist, Kellan has advised major campaigns, including serving as a senior adviser to the Harris and Casey campaigns and managing Rebecca Rhynhart’s mayoral bid. He previously served as First Deputy City Controller, leading DEI efforts within Philadelphia government. Kellan has also played key roles in the campaigns of Katie McGinty, Judge Carolyn Nichols, and others. He is a former national political director for the New Leaders Council and currently serves on the boards of Unity Recovery, the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia Outward Bound.
