WHAT: Show Me the Money: The Road Map to Financial Aid for College

DETAILS: State Sen. Vincent Hughes, the Educational Advancement Alliance, the Mayor’s Office of Education and the School District of Philadelphia will provide the road map for financial aid for college to high school students from grades 9 to 12 and their parents.

High school juniors and seniors along with their parents are encouraged to attend Show Me the Money: The Road Map to Financial Aid for College to assist with the complex issues that arise when seeking money for higher education.

Highlights for 9th-11th graders will be finding free money for college with an on-site scholarship search and a financial aid clinic. Students in 12th grade and parents will receive step-by-step financial aid preparation for college, electronic FAFSA filing, free income tax preparation, essay writing tips, and open access to financial aid administrators from various colleges and universities. Prospective and current college students also will have the opportunity to learn effective ways to handle their financial affairs.

Parents are asked to bring all pertinent documents including 1040s, W-2 forms, social security numbers, 1099 forms and all other tax related information to assist with the filing and completion of financial aid forms.

In attendance will be college and university financial aid administrators, the Educational Advancement Alliance, the Mayor’s Office of Education, the School District of Philadelphia PHEAA, College Access Program, and the United Negro College Fund, among others.
