Telephone Town Hall - September 24, 2019

Continuing his fight to end gun violence in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania, Senator Hughes will host a telephone Town hall at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. CeaseFirePA Executive Director Shira Goodman will join the senator for this important discussion on legislation, programs and other initiatives designed to fight the gun violence epidemic.

In 2017, more than 1,600 people died of gunshot wounds in Pennsylvania, which is above the national average. Gov. Tom Wolf issued a bold executive order to address the public health crisis of gun violence in August.

Sen. Hughes has proposed a statewide gun ban at public recreation centers, universal background checks and supports other progressive legislation on guns with the goal of improving safety in our communities. He and the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Caucus are calling for commonsense gun control and need your support in the fight to end gun violence.

Sen. Hughes will also be discussing the desperate need to improve toxic schools in Philadelphia with Jerry Roseman, environmental director of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. Senator Hughes and the PFT are calling for $100 million in funding for immediate cleanups in toxic schools across the district. The senator is committed to removing lead and other toxic conditions from Philadelphia and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Join Senator Hughes for a deep, thoughtful conversation on both topics tomorrow evening!
