Senator Hughes

Harrisburg, PA – March 25, 2026 – This week, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation to raise Pennsylvania’s minimum wage. This marks the third consecutive year that the House has voted to raise the minimum wage.

Senator Vincent Hughes shared the following statement:

“Pennsylvania Democrats have been relentless in trying to get the state’s minimum wage raised, and time after time Republicans have stood in the way.

Senate Democrats remains ready to vote on minimum wage legislation and finally get this done. The minimum wage in PA has been stuck at $7.25 since 2009. That means for 17 years, workers who have to pay for housing, groceries, and bills have had to find a way to get by while Republicans sit on their hands and argue that there’s no need to raise the minimum wage. Inflation has gone up, but the minimum wage hasn’t moved.

Now, we have another opportunity to do right by workers. I encourage Senate Republicans to take action so we can fix this common sense issue that will benefit almost 250,000 Pennsylvanians who are currently working for Pennsylvania’s insufficient minimum wage. All we need is a vote in the Senate.”
