PHILADELPHIA – Octubre 31, 2019 – State Senator Vincent Hughes (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) announced more than $680,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) grants have been awarded to projects in the 7th Senatorial District.
“I am happy to announce these grants and look forward to seeing the impact these projects have in the district,” Sen. Hughes said. “These grants are key in continuing to see progress in our communities’ development, revitalization and improvement. I thank Gov. Tom Wolf and his administration for continuous support of development projects across the commonwealth.”
“Over the past several years, Senator Hughes and I have focused on helping neighborhood organizations, like Overbrook West Neighbors, to build capacity — helping to strengthen their forces and impact.” Rep Morgan Cephas said of the project in her House district. “This grant will help to establish a much needed anchor location allowing OWN to help more people in our community by providing direct services and resources. The Overbrook Community will benefit immensely from this new addition.”
In total, $682,273 in grants were awarded to the following projects:
- Fairmount Community Development Corporation was awarded $200,000 for the acquisition and renovations of one commercial floor space located in the Brewerytown Area to serve as the space for a new business resource hub for small business owners that have businesses or plan to start new businesses within the neighborhood.
- The Enterprise Center Community Development Corporation was awarded $14,278 to design and install new banners for select street poles in the Walnut Hill Neighborhood.
- Roxborough Development Corporation was awarded $52,900 to install a gateway into a pocket park, complete a mural in the park, and install lighting in an adjacent parking lot to ensure a safe place to park for visitors to the park.
- ACHIEVEability was awarded $47,040 to assist with the expansion of the “60th Street Spruce Up” initiative promoting increased safety. The project will install 10 exterior lights and 10 security cameras on businesses located within the 60th Street Corridor in West Philadelphia. Businesses will be required to register their security camera with the local police precinct and businesses are encouraged to keep records of police activity.
- Overbrook West Neighbor’s Community Development was awarded $268,055 to purchase and renovate a building to serve as the headquarters for the Overbrook west neighbors Community Development Corporation.
- Wissahickon Sustainability Council received $100,000 to de-pave a portion of the playground at the Cook-Wissahickon School while providing aesthetic and storm water management improvements.
The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has established the Local Share Account (LSA) – Philadelphia program to distribute a portion of slot machine license operation fees from Category 1 or 2 facilities operating within the City of Philadelphia. Funds are available for economic development, neighborhood revitalization, community improvement, and other projects in the public interest within the City of Philadelphia.
