Campaign Brings Free Health Screenings and Flu Voucher Fridays to Phila. During National Immunization Awareness Month in Agosto

PHILADELPHIA, Agosto 16, 2012  – – State Senator Vincent Hughes (D-Phila./Montgomery) will join Sarah Shrimplin, Public Health Advisor in the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, at a visit to a local CVS/pharmacy to help raise awareness of the importance of preventive health screenings and the Project Health campaign during Agosto and National Immunization Awareness Month. The pharmacy will be offering free health screenings to thousands of people in the Philadelphia area. The health screenings will include vaccination reviews, vision acuity, glucose, blood pressure and BMI (Body Mass Index) for individuals in multicultural communities who have difficulty accessing preventive care.

DETAILS: The Project Health events will be held at designated CVS/pharmacy locations on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 2 – 6 p.m. daily with no appointment necessary. Along with these free health screening events, CVS/pharmacy designated Project Health store locations are also holding “Flu Voucher Fridays” each week during the month of Agosto. Qualifying Project Health attendees who complete the entire health screening process and identify themselves as not having health insurance will be eligible to receive a voucher redeemable for a flu shot at CVS/pharmacy or MinuteClinic this flu season. This effort, part of CVS/pharmacy’s “Project Health,” aims to prevent disease through early detection by bringing free health screenings to local communities, helping African Americans and Hispanics take proactive steps toward better health.
