PHILADELPHIA, Mar. 2, 2011 – State Sen. Vincent Hughes announced today he would again be hosting “Show Me the Money – A Road Map to Financial Aid for College” on Sábado, Mar. 5 at the High School of the Future in the city.

“Show Me the Money” assists high school students, grades 9 through 12, who are planning to go to college, with navigating the financial maze of financial aid.

“When applying to college, the sometimes complicated and confusing world of financial aid can deter or hinder an individual from pursuing that dream,” Hughes said. “We want to make sure students and parents have the tools necessary to help them get the support they need, and not let the filing of something such as the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) be a deterrent.”

Parents are asked to bring all pertinent documents including 1040s, W-2 forms, social security numbers, 1099 forms and all other tax related information to assist with the filing and completion of financial aid forms.

There will be on-site scholarship search, an essay writing clinic, step-by-step financial aid preparation for college, electronic FAFSA filing, free income tax preparation and open access to financial aid administrators from various colleges and universities. In addition, students will have the opportunity to win various items, including an Apple iPad or a college scholarship.

The event will take place on Sábado, Mar. 5 from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the High School of the Future, located at 4021 Parkside Ave. It is accessible by SEPTA routes 15, 38 and 40.

The Senator is presenting the conference with the Mayor’s Office of Education, the School District of Philadelphia – Division of College Readiness, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
