The remnants of Hurricane Harvey have now ravaged Texas for nearly a week. The Houston area has been devastated by catastrophic flooding, and its residents need our help now. 

The American Red Cross is currently seeking donations to help survivors. 

Also, the Pennsylvania Department of State, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of Attorney General Josh Shapiro want Pennsylvanians to know how they can best help and not hinder rescue and recovery efforts while ensuring that they choose legitimate charities and emergency organizations when donating. Here’s how you can help survivors of Hurricane Harvey while making smart choices.

Two and a half days after Hurricane Harvey made landfall and dropped more than 2 feet of rain, thousands of people in Houston and along the Gulf Coast have been displaced. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott activated the entire Texas National Guard.

EMA Administrator Brock Long estimated Lunes that 30,000 people may need shelter, and some 450,000 may qualify for federal flood victim assistance.

Where to Donate to Harvey Victims (and How to Avoid Scams)

A large and complicated rescue operation is underway in Houston as floodwaters continue to rise, fed by unrelenting rain.

So far, there’s no end in sight.

As a tropical storm, Harvey is expected to produce 6 to 12 more inches of rain through Viernes over the upper Texas coast, where some areas — including the Houston metropolitan area — may see accumulations of up to 50 inches.
