Be Prepared: Now’s the Time to Explore Your Affordable Healthcare Options Ahead of Open Enrollment

For my entire time in the legislature, expanding access to health insurance to the uninsured and underinsured has been a central focus of my work.  

When we fully implemented the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion in 2015 with Governor Wolf, more than 1 million Pennsylvanians eventually received health insurance.  

It was a great moment, but the fight continues.

Thanks to President Biden, a greater expansion in health insurance is now available.

Mark your calendars:  on November 1, 2022, the open enrollment period for health and dental coverage offered through Pennie begins. Pennie is the commonwealth’s online one-stop-shop connecting people with financial assistance to reduce the cost of health coverage and care.

Its goal is to make it easier for Pennsylvanians to access coverage through education, assistance, and improved customer service.

Pennie’s open enrollment period begins November 1 for coverage beginning January 1, 2023. However, coverage through Pennie is available at any time to anyone experiencing a qualifying life event, such as moving to a new part of Pennsylvania or losing coverage from another source.

Now is a good time to do your research and shop around for the plan that works for you, your family, and your financial needs. Low-cost and free plans are available.

Open enrollment runs from November 1, 2022, through January 15, 2023.
