Dylan Adkins is a motivated young leader dedicated to academic excellence, community service, and personal growth. While in high school, Dylan maintained a 3.4 GPA, participated in dual enrollment courses, and earned membership in an honor society. He is also one of only five young men in his class to earn an associate degree while still in high school, demonstrating his strong commitment to education and achievement.

Passionate about helping others, Dylan provided tutoring support to youth at Mill Creek Playground while balancing his own academic responsibilities. He also participated in rowing during his senior year and played lacrosse in the 10th grade. Through a nursing pathway internship, Dylan discovered his passion for pursuing a career in nursing. A talented athlete in his own right, he competed at the varsity level and in top AAU leagues, earning college interest along the way. His passion and knowledge of the game led to an internship opportunity with the Philadelphia 76ers, and he now continues his work at PYB, where he mentors and develops young athletes. Beyond his accomplishments, Zachary stands out for his servant leadership, strong moral compass, and genuine dedication to helping others find direction and purpose. He represents the very best of the next generation‚ resilient, driven, and committed to making a lasting impact in his community.

Andrew Ankamah Jr. is making a difference in the community by building real pathways for young people to lead, grow, and access opportunities that might otherwise feel out of reach. As the Founder and Director of The Accountability Initiative, he has helped create a youth-led organization centered on advocacy, mentorship, and service. This organization is now based in 10 Universities Nationwide. Through that work, he has supported programs like college and career readiness workshops, service efforts for vulnerable communities, and civic engagement events that help students become more informed and involved in their communities. In his public service work, he has also helped connect community members to resources they need, while using outreach and communication to make government feel more accessible. His work has especially stood out in mentoring young people, creating leadership opportunities, and using his platform to highlight issues that matter in Philadelphia and beyond.

Nicholas “Gil” Barksdale is a dedicated scholar, emerging leader, and advocate for health equity who has combined academic excellence at Sidney Kimmel Medical College with a deep commitment to serving his community. Passionate about creating pathways for underrepresented communities in medicine, Gil believes that “a doctor’s white coat symbolizes a responsibility to serve others, a commitment to lifelong learning, and an ethical obligation to integrate scientific expertise with compassionate patient care.”

As president and co-founder of the chapter of Black Men in White Coats at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Gil has led impactful initiatives focused on community health and mentorship. Through partnerships with Jefferson Health, Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, and community health leaders, he helped provide prostate cancer screenings for more than 100 men and expand access to healthcare services for over 1,300 individuals. He also collaborated with the Institute for the Development of African American Youth to create mentorship workshops that encouraged academic achievement and career exploration for young people.

Through his leadership, compassion, and dedication to empowering both students and patients, Gil continues to make a meaningful impact in healthcare and in the community.

Barry is a dedicated student leader whose presence has made a lasting impact on his school community. As a key member of the Student Ambassador program, he consistently goes above and beyond staying after school to support parent events, leading tours for district guests and prospective families, and serving as a reliable representative of his school.

Known for his willingness to help, Barry is frequently called upon to assist with classroom needs and school initiatives, always stepping in with a positive attitude and strong sense of responsibility. During his first year on the team, Barry experienced a profound tragedy when a fellow player lost his life in an act of violence on campus. Jaden D. Black is a student leader and community builder whose work reflects a deep and sustained commitment to service, equity, and collective impact. Since the 9th grade, he has been an active force within the William Penn Charter Center for Public Purpose—not simply as a participant, but as an innovator dedicated to creating solutions that endure.

He is the founder of the Allegheny West Friends’ Fridge, a community refrigerator initiative that provides free, accessible food to Philadelphia residents. Recognized with the Philly Service Award, Jaden expanded this effort by building a multi-school stewardship network to ensure the fridge remains consistently stocked and operational beyond his direct involvement.

Jaden also co-led Penn Charter’s first annual Food Justice Conference in partnership with the Share Food Program, guiding its development from initial planning through execution. Over the course of several months, he helped design the curriculum, coordinate community partnerships, and lead students from across the city through a three-day exploration of food sovereignty and justice.

In addition to his community work, Jaden has leveraged his roles on Student Council and the Center for Public Purpose board to launch a campus vending machine initiative that generates funding for student-led service projects. Matthias Brockington is a 20-year-old college student studying Psychology and Ministry Leadership at Eastern University. He has been chosen to represent the student body on numerous panels and public speaking engagements, serves as a Campus Chaplain, and leads a weekly “Bro Group” for men on campus. Matthias is also a member of the selective Campolo Scholarship and Fellowship program at Eastern University. A Finance major at Morgan State University with a 3.0 GPA, Mikel is committed to academic growth while building a strong foundation in financial analysis and investment strategy. He is an active member of the university’s finance and investment Clubs, where he applies his knowledge and continues to develop his leadership skills. Beyond the classroom, Mikel serves as a youth basketball coach in Philadelphia, mentoring young athletes and instilling discipline, confidence, and accountability. Jarvis Cain, Jr. is making an impact at Temple University, where he is working toward the completion of his bachelor’s degree, as well as Anchor Church, where he serves as part of the Audio & Visual Team. Jarvis is a servant leader who has been a founding member of Anchor Church (which started in February 2025 in West Philadelphia) and has made an impact on the Temple University campus by striving for academic excellence. Jarvis makes an impact by showing up, being dependable, and serving with integrity and humility. Prior to attending Temple University and being a part of Anchor Church, Jarvis served in the United States Navy.

Ashon is a determined scholar, leader, and serviceman whose journey reflects resilience, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Although he was unable to receive financial assistance from his family to pursue higher education, Ashon refused to allow obstacles to define his future.

In 2019, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant while simultaneously pursuing his academic goals. Through hard work, perseverance, and dedication, Ashon earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Pennsylvania State University.

Ashon’s academic and professional excellence continued to open doors, leading to his selection for a full scholarship opportunity at Villanova University, where he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in digital marketing & communications. This achievement will also allow him to retire from the Army National Guard in May 2026 after years of dedicated service. He is expected to graduate from Villanova in May 2027.

Kevin Carolina is a powerful example of a young man truly making a difference, demonstrating both excellence and purpose in his journey to medicine. As a fourth-year medical student at Thomas Jefferson University, he not only achieved the milestone of matching into an internal medicine residency at University of Maryland Medical Center but also became the first doctor in his family‚ turning personal perseverance into generational impact. Driven by witnessing health disparities and mistrust in his own community, Kevin founded Pennsylvania’s first chapter of Black Men in White Coats, where he mentors aspiring Black male physicians, organizes community health screenings, and leads service initiatives like food and clothing drives. His commitment goes beyond medicine; he actively works to rebuild trust, improve health outcomes, and inspire representation in underserved communities. Kevin embodies leadership, compassion, and advocacy.

Kris Chester is a driven student-athlete, emerging leader, and dedicated community servant who exemplifies perseverance, discipline, and determination. Currently a freshman at Duquesne University, Kris is pursuing a degree in business while playing football at the collegiate level. A recent graduate of La Salle College High School, he distinguished himself both academically and athletically through his participation in football and track and field.

Beyond sports, Kris has remained actively involved in a wide range of activities including Boy Scouts, church choir, soccer, and community service initiatives. A longtime participant in Frontline Dads Inc., he has consistently engaged in projects focused on uplifting and supporting the community. Kris’s journey to collegiate athletics is a true reflection of his character and perseverance. Although he did not initially receive a football scholarship, he refused to let that discourage him. Instead, he trained, conditioned, practiced, and prepared as though he were already a member of the team. His relentless dedication and sacrifice ultimately earned him an official invitation to join the football program at Duquesne University.

Kaizer Curtis, better known as Kaz, is a 3x award winning barber student & photographer based out of Philadelphia. Picking up clippers at a young age and honing his skills over the years through trial & error & solid mentorship. He recently collaborated to open a space labeled Groundwork, where his love for barbering & photography blends together. He is also an active participant in Barbers Who Care, which is an organization dedicated to servicing and raising the self-esteem of our youth through grooming.

Joar Dahn is a dedicated public servant and community advocate currently serving as the Mayor of Darby Borough. Recognized as the youngest mayor in the borough’s history, Mayor Dahn has quickly become known for his passion for community engagement, neighborhood development, and youth empowerment. Through his leadership, he has worked to strengthen relationships between residents, local organizations, and local government while advocating for initiatives that create greater opportunities for individuals and families throughout the community. His commitment to unity, progress, and service continues to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Ahmir Davis is a senior at MaST Community Charter School and a dedicated student leader, serving as both a student ambassador and School Board Student Representative. In these roles, he advocates for his peers and works to ensure that all student voices are heard while promoting improvements that support a positive academic and social environment.

Since first joining our program as a quiet and shy ninth grader, Malik has grown into a confident young leader committed to building a positive future for himself and his community. A high school graduate who is currently employed and pursuing his dreams, Malik is actively working toward a career in emergency services. He has been involved with the Fire Explorers program since high school and is currently working in security while training to become an EMT, with aspirations of becoming a firefighter.

Raised by a strong support system that includes a hardworking mother, supportive father, and praying grandmother, Malik reflects those same values through his commitment to service and community involvement. He has volunteered in numerous community service initiatives and regularly assists his grandmother in serving others, including helping organize a back-to-school book bag giveaway at Penrose Recreation Center.

Malik’s curiosity, adventurous spirit, and willingness to step outside the norm are reflected in his many interests and accomplishments. From participating in the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation hockey league to traveling to Ghana as a youth ambassador and peer leader, Malik consistently leads by example. During the Ghana trip, he served as a strong source of encouragement and support for the other young people, demonstrating maturity, leadership, and compassion.

Alphonso Evans Jr. is a dynamic student leader, gospel recording artist, and dedicated community servant currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Music Business with a minor in Jazz Voice, at the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University, where he maintains a 3.6 GPA. He serves as President of the College of Fine Arts Student Council and as a Howard University Student Ambassador, playing a key role in major campus events and student engagement initiatives.

Deeply committed to service, Alphonso has contributed over 100 hours through the Chapel Assistant program and supported university-wide events such as Homecoming, Charter Day, and Commencement. An accomplished gospel artist, Alphonso released his debut album Not 2 Young at age 17, earning a Stellar Gospel Music Award nomination and performing both nationally and internationally. Mr. Flowers is an active member of the We Speak Youth Advisory Council, a leadership body that supports the City of Philadelphia through policy advocacy, program evaluation, and youth legal education. He consistently excels in his role, contributing to a wide range of impactful initiatives. His work has included facilitating a “Know Your Rights/Youth Justice Jeopardy” workshop at Pittsburgh’s Y.E.S. Violence Prevention Symposium, serving as a panelist at the 2025 James E. Anderson Pennsylvania Conference on Juvenile Justice, and helping to develop City Council policy proposals advocating for expanded mental health supports within the School District of Philadelphia. Talmage is a dedicated Drexel medical student whose passion for community service and mentorship defines his journey in medicine. Through the Medical Student Education Program (MSEP), he has actively contributed to community health initiatives, including outreach events focused on prostate cancer, hypertension, and diabetes education and screening. He also served as co-steering coordinator for the Microgreens Health Outreach Project, partnering with local Philadelphia organizations to provide food and support to individuals experiencing homelessness in Kensington.

A committed mentor and educator, Talmage has spent over a decade supporting students in STEM and continued this work at DUCOM, including serving as a panelist for the “I Choose to Win” initiative and helping guide high school students exploring pathways in medicine. He is also a co-founder of the Diversity in Medicine Research Symposium at DUCOM, creating opportunities for medical students to share research and for younger students to engage with the medical field.

Samuel Gatheca is a senior at Temple University studying International Business. He has exemplified leadership as the 2025-2026 President of Temple’s Fox African American Business Association where he organizes guest speaker meetings and an annual Black-owned business panel. He wears multiple hats at the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, both serving as a Professional Exchanges Intern, supporting exchange programs for international leaders visiting Philadelphia, and Global Smarts Mentor, coaching middle school students on essential Model UN skills like public speaking, research skills and debate. Outside of World Affairs, he is an intern with PA Youth Vote, as he informs young people about the civic process through voter guides for upcoming elections and information tables at schools.

Cahiem Gillis-Payton distinguishes himself as a young man of high character and academic rigor who lives out the principles of social responsibility and community uplift. A dedicated scholar at West Philadelphia High School, Cahiem challenges himself with AP-level coursework, demonstrating the intellectual self-determination necessary for future leadership. He balances these academic demands with a strong work ethic at the Giant in Wynnewood, PA and still finds the time to pour back into the next generation by volunteering at the Lenfest Recreation Center, where he teaches physical education to local youth. Cahiem serves as a vital mentor and role model, fostering empowerment through health and teamwork.

Ahijah Goins is an outstanding student-athlete and honor roll senior who will continue his academic and athletic journey at George Washington University in Fall 2026. A disciplined and driven student, he is also an active member of his school’s Bible study group, Focus, where he engages in faith-based fellowship and leadership.

Rameir Hardy is a proud Philadelphia native who has met every challenge with resilience, humility, and a genuine commitment to giving back. A three-time state champion and standout wide receiver at St. Joseph’s Prep, Rameir had opportunities to pursue college football far from home, yet he intentionally chose to remain in the heart of the city as a Temple University student athlete. Long before arriving on Temple’s campus, and continuing now as a rising freshman, Rameir has been actively involved in initiatives supporting Philadelphia’s most vulnerable populations, including volunteering with local women’s shelters, mentoring and speaking with youth at neighborhood recreation centers, and bringing encouragement to patients and families at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Tyson Harrington is a dedicated young professional and proud alumnus of Roxborough High School who is making a meaningful impact in his school community. As a Physics major at Morehouse College and a Michael Lomax Presidential Scholar, Amir brings both academic excellence and purpose to his work. He supports students as an academic tutor with Kumon, where he provides individualized instruction that builds confidence, independence, and critical thinking skills across grade levels. Beyond the classroom, Amir actively contributes to community outreach through organizations like LovingStone and Jack and Jill Inc., helping to organize service initiatives and distribute essential resources to underserved populations. He is also a strong advocate for mental health awareness and is currently developing a peer counseling group at Morehouse College, with a focus on addressing the unique challenges Black men face in seeking and prioritizing mental health support. Samuel Johnson is actively making a meaningful impact on the community by creating opportunities that guide young people toward safer, more positive futures. He organized a highly successful three-day youth summit in North Carolina focused on reducing teen violence, bringing together around 100 students, engaging in community leadership‚ including the mayor‚ and earning recognition on ABC News and Fox 8 News for its impact. Beyond that event, Samuel continues this work daily in Philadelphia, serving over 300 at-risk students across Harrity, Shoemaker, and Pickett schools, where he mentors, encourages, and provides consistent guidance to help them make better decisions and see a path beyond their current circumstances. Through both large-scale initiatives and everyday relationships, he remains committed to having a steady, positive influence on the lives of young people.

Everett is a junior finance major at Temple University’s Fox School of Business and is passionate about leveraging financial insights and data analytics to drive strategic decisions. His coursework in accounting, business analytics, and management has strengthened his analytical and organizational skills. As a Transportation Finance Summer Analyst at Siebert Williams Shank & Co. LLC, he developed pricing models to enhance investor communication and built a database to streamline RFP responses. He aspires to deepen his expertise in market research, financial modeling, and sustainable finance while connecting with professionals who share his commitment to community impact and continuous growth.

From the moment he arrived on campus, Jones committed himself to leadership, serving first as Freshman Class President, then Vice President of Executive Affairs, and now SGA President for the 2025–2026 academic year. In this role, he represents the student body, serving as a liaison to university leadership and advocating for student concerns with clarity and purpose.

His influence extends beyond campus as he represents Cheyney University at civic events such as the Mayor’s Ball and NAACP youth programs, where he highlights the importance of HBCUs and community legacy.

This year, Jones also earned statewide recognition through his appointment to the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on African American Affairs. He is the first Cheyney student ever selected, a historic milestone that reflects both his leadership and the university’s growing impact at the state level.

Langston Jones is a 10th grade student at La Salle College High School, where he competes in track & field as a shot put athlete. His talent and dedication have earned him opportunities to compete at the Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas and Des Moines, Iowa, highlighting his commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Langston recently participated in an HBCU college tour sponsored by Salem Baptist Church, which sparked his interest in North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he hopes to study psychology.

A committed servant leader, Langston has long been involved with Frontline Dads Inc., contributing to community cleanups, food distribution efforts, and various service projects. Focused, hardworking, and community-minded, Langston continues to make a positive difference as both a peer leader and a young man dedicated to service.

Jibril committed himself to a journey of recovery and healing while also pursuing rigorous academics when he enrolled at The Bridge Way School as a 10th grader. Now completing 11th grade, he has reached meaningful milestones in his healing process despite significant challenges, while also making consistent contributions to his community.

At Bridge Way, Jibril serves as a student leader in the garden learning internship program, where he studies horticulture and helps care for plants in the Emerald Wildflower Garden in Kensington. He also volunteers regularly through the school’s recovery support initiatives, including service with Toys for Tots and Socks for the Streets.

Even in the face of personal loss and separation from family over the past two years, Jibril continues to grow into a young man grounded in purpose and service. He demonstrates how healing and community impact are possible when young people embrace support systems and move forward with courageous vulnerability.

He is also a member of the African Dance & Drum Ensemble and uses opportunities in art class to express his emotions in ways that encourage his peers to do the same. Through his journey, Jibril reminds us that recovery is not only possible, but transformative.

Born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania, Nasir Leach’s journey reflects resilience, purpose, and a deep commitment to community. Shaped by personal adversity and early loss, he transformed hardship into a foundation for leadership, faith, and service.

Nasir began his public service career at 18 as a Community Liaison in a mayoral administration and later worked with Pennsylvania State House legislators, gaining experience in advocacy and government. While studying Mass Communications at Rust College, he made the decision to return home to address rising gun violence, helping lead efforts that contributed to a 60% reduction in violence through collaboration with local partners.

His impact has earned recognition from U.S. Senator Bob Casey Jr. and the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, making him one of the youngest recipients in Pennsylvania. Beyond advocacy, Nasir is a dynamic media personality and National Youth Champion who uses his platform to elevate conversations on gun violence prevention, equity, and youth empowerment.

He continues to lead community initiatives including vigils, reentry support, and family assistance efforts, and has also supported statewide advocacy, including legislation recognizing Hit-and-Run Prevention awareness in Pennsylvania. Nasir Leach is a committed changemaker dedicated to turning adversity into lasting impact for others.

Marquise Lindsey-Bradley is a Philadelphia-based arts leader, marketing strategist, and public speaker whose work bridges cultural advocacy, community engagement, and institutional growth. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music with a minor in Business Management from Case Western Reserve University, he combines artistic training with strategic expertise in audience development and organizational impact.

He currently serves as Marketing & Engagement Director at the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, overseeing communications for more than 50 annual events and leading efforts to expand access to classical music through storytelling and cross-sector partnerships. Marquise also contributes to community-centered cultural programming as a Concert Curator for Olney Culture Lab, where he helps shape initiatives such as Jazz on the Green, the Roots Garden Concert Series, and the Tacony Creek Park Music & Arts Festival.

In addition, he serves as Chair of the Personal & Professional Development Committee for the Urban League of Philadelphia’s NExT program, supporting emerging professionals in leadership development, economic mobility, and civic engagement. Marquise is recognized for advancing the arts while strengthening pathways for community connection and opportunity across Philadelphia.

Ishmael Marshall is a dedicated educator, mentor, and basketball coach committed to uplifting young people in his community. As a 4th-grade math teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, he creates a structured and supportive classroom that promotes academic success, confidence, and emotional growth, particularly for students who need additional support.

He also serves as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Neumann University, helping lead the program to back-to-back conference championships. In this role, he mentors student-athletes in discipline, accountability, and resilience, preparing them for success on and off the court.

Beyond education and athletics, Ishmael is actively engaged in youth mentorship and community development, with a focus on supporting underserved populations. Through his work, he consistently models leadership, integrity, and a commitment to helping others reach their potential.

Markee is a Cheyney University undergraduate student and will be graduating class of 2026. Brother Markee is a leader of the Cheyney University Collegiate 100 which is a branch of the 100 Black Men of Philadelphia. Markee currently serves as a Reentry Program Intern with the Urban league of Greater Philadelphia, where he supports program staff with delivering essential services to individuals returning to the community after incarceration. Brother Markee also is a Youth Coach with the Philadelphia Youth Basketball Association. Markee has collaborated with professional basketball players and coaches to design and lead training that advances youth athletic skills and game comprehension.

Tyler’s journey reflects resilience and determination in the face of significant challenges. He encountered setbacks that once hindered his academic and personal growth, influenced by environments and habits that created barriers to his success. These obstacles led to periods of delay and discouragement, but Tyler made a pivotal decision to change his trajectory by separating himself from negative influences and recommitting to his goals, he embraced a renewed sense of purpose.

Through persistence, discipline, and a transformed mindset, Tyler overcame these challenges and earned his GED in January 2026. Today, he is dedicated to giving back, using his experiences to support and inspire other GED students. By teaching foundational skills and sharing his story, Tyler empowers others to overcome their own barriers, turning his journey into a powerful example of growth, resilience, and community impact.

Chris is a promising and dedicated young attorney who represents indigent clients through his work as a Public Defender. Currently assigned to the Juvenile Unit, Chris has shown true commitment to representing youth accused of criminal offenses.  Chris also dedicates his spare time to the Temple Law Trial team as a coach for aspiring young lawyers.

Jermaine Moore’s unwavering dedication to his community sets him apart as a truly impactful leader. Known for his positive, “glass half full” mindset and energizing presence, he has a natural ability to inspire those around him and uplift any space he enters. Jermaine embodies the belief that leadership is both action and voice—he not only speaks with purpose but consistently backs it up through meaningful work.

He leads by example, showing up, putting in the effort, and remaining committed whether in the spotlight or behind the scenes. Grounded, driven, and service-oriented, Jermaine is building a legacy rooted in integrity, influence, and lasting community impact.

Gabe is a strong and influential leader who brings purpose and presence to every space he enters. A student at Lower Merion High School, he demonstrates his commitment to education, advocacy, and civic engagement through multiple leadership roles. He currently serves as President of the Black Student Union, Vice President of Student Council, and Chair of the Racial Equity Committee for the Lower Merion Democrats.

Through these roles and other extracurricular activities, Gabe actively seeks opportunities to learn, grow, and use his knowledge to educate and uplift others. He is deeply engaged in current events and global affairs and is passionate about having a meaningful voice in political and social issues. Confident and articulate, Gabe is unafraid to speak up, engage in thoughtful debate, and advocate for the ideas and communities he believes in.

Currently a second-year graduate student pursuing his PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Chemical Biology. Myles went to undergrad at MIT where he majored in Chemistry. He is a member of the CDEC committee for the community development and engagement committee which aims to foster an inclusive environment at Penn and increase accessibility in the general community. Myles is also an educations counselor for MIT, so he interviews high school students who apply. As well as giving advice for the college admissions process particularly to students from underrepresented groups.

Jeremiah Price exemplifies the legacy of Malcolm X through his commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and service. Since enrolling at Girard College in the 4th grade, he has consistently demonstrated discipline and determination both in the classroom and beyond.

A dedicated multi-sport athlete, Jeremiah competes in track and field—ranking among the top 40 hurdlers in Pennsylvania—while also playing football and basketball. His involvement in the Boy Scouts of America reflects his strong character and dedication to service. He has also proudly represented his school on national television in a feature highlighting the desegregation of Girard College.

With acceptance to eight colleges, including Morgan State University, Delaware State University, and Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Jeremiah plans to pursue a degree in civil engineering and use his skills to uplift and strengthen communities. Lefa is a dedicated student-athlete and school leader committed to fostering cultural awareness, positive decision-making, and peer support within his school community. He actively participates in the Black Student Union, Culture Club, and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), where he helps promote inclusion, leadership, and healthy choices among his peers.

Recently, Lefa was accepted into the competitive Penn Medicine Summer Program for high school students, which provides early exposure to careers in healthcare and reflects his strong interest in community-focused health access and service. Through his academic, athletic, and leadership involvement, Lefa continues to demonstrate discipline, purpose, and a commitment to making a positive impact.

Malachi Rose is a dedicated and compassionate young man whose character reflects the values of truth, justice, self-determination, and empowerment. Since arriving at Girard College, he has been a standout student for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, earning MVP honors in football, soccer, and baseball. As a musician, he is a founding member of the jazz band, and additionally studies at the Philadelphia Club. Mr. Rose gives back by assisting younger students as a teaching assistant in music and in his spare time reaches out to mentor his peers and juniors in life. Beyond his achievements, Malachi shows a deep commitment to his community through his leadership as vice president of ‚Grace is Pure and his role as treasurer of the Kappa League. He played an integral role in organizing and executing a school-wide canned food drive, helping to coordinate efforts, distribute resources, and sustain the school pantry. In addition, as an Ambassador for Pennsylvania Youth Vote, he actively promotes civic engagement among young people and advances equity and representation. Kasir is a student-athlete working to carry his impact from high school into college while continuing to lead and serve his community. He organized and networked a large-scale back-to-school drive with the hoodlum program as well as The Church of Christian Compassion, that provided over 400 backpacks with supplies. He has spoken out to advocate for fair resources for students and athletes at his old high school Penn Wood. His efforts have been recognized with an award from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Through his brand, now known as 000 (formerly Faceless), Kasir focused on building partnerships, creating opportunities, and using my voice to push my community forward.

A graduate of Swarthmore College, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with minors in Engineering and French, equipping him with a multidisciplinary perspective that bridges technical expertise and community-centered advocacy. Owen began his professional journey as a Pathways Intern with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the Air and Radiation Division, where he gained critical insight into environmental policy and air quality management. Today, he brings that experience to the grassroots level as an Environmental Educator at the Overbrook Environmental Education Center. There, he leads the “Breathe Right Air Monitoring” project, deploying a network of sensors across West Philadelphia to provide residents with real-time data on air quality. Through his leadership, Owen has helped transform this initiative into a model for community-based science, establishing 15 monitoring sites in high-traffic and industrial areas. By combining technical precision with neighborhood-level advocacy, he empowers communities to use data as a tool for protecting their health and advancing environmental justice.

Robert is a standout emerging leader and former lead apprentice in the Ready2Work program, where he distinguished himself through professionalism, initiative, and strong peer leadership. SAMSMH (Samuel Smith) is a Philadelphia-based musician, producer, and audio engineer entering his senior year at Temple University, where he studies Audio & Live Entertainment. A versatile artist with over a decade of experience in Logic Pro, he works across music production, vocal performance, and live instrumentation, including piano and drums performed at his home church.

Known for his innovative sound and genre-pushing creativity, Samuel was recently awarded “Best Alternative/Experimental Song,” further establishing his reputation as a forward-thinking artist in the music industry. Beyond music, he is a multi-disciplinary creator with skills in digital art, graphic design, photography, and video editing.

SAMSMH continues to build his presence as a dynamic creative force, blending technical skill with artistic vision across multiple mediums.

Jy’Aire Smith-Pinnick’s life is a powerful testament to transformation, accountability, and purpose. In 2014, he entered prison as a teenager facing multiple sentences that ultimately led to a 20-year term. During his incarceration, Jy’Aire committed himself to growth—participating in Eastern University’s Prison Education Program, becoming a published author, and emerging as a thoughtful justice advocate. In a profound act of accountability and healing, he reconciled with the mother of the victim in his case.

Now released on parole and enrolled in Eastern University’s Honors College, Jy’Aire continues to inspire others through his story of redemption and service. His recent participation in a civil rights pilgrimage across the South reflects his deep commitment to learning, reflection, and community impact.

Malachi is the founder of Visualized by Mal, a photography brand established in 2016 that uses visual storytelling to build connection and strengthen community impact. Inspired by his grandfather, Paul Somerville, Jr., he specializes in capturing authentic, emotional moments that highlight the depth of human experience.

Based in Philadelphia and serving a wide range of locations, Malachi works with individuals, students, and organizations to elevate personal branding and showcase community resilience through high-quality imagery. His work is rooted in purpose, honoring Black identity and empowerment through visual narratives that reflect strength, dignity, and self-determination inspired by the legacy of Malcolm X.

Amir Staten is a junior Sociology major with a minor in Political Science. He is a native of Germantown where he graduated from Philadelphia’s Germantown Friends School. He has made a difference by truly staying committed to community values. From being honored as 2026 Mr. Morehouse for his academic excellence and leadership to the work he’s done with youth nonprofit shoot basketballs not people, Senator Art Haywood’s office, and city council. He embodies what it means to make a difference in the community.

Jasir is a dedicated Ready2Work Lead Apprentice who has grown into a mentor for new cohorts, a committed volunteer in workforce development programs, and a strong advocate for individuals navigating the reentry process.

With a deep passion for service and personal growth, Jasir is also pursuing a future in art therapy, driven by a desire to help others heal as he has been given the opportunity to heal himself. Mr. Sylla has served as our Partnership Coordinator for the past two years, serving as the primary point of contact for all organizations collaborating with our students. During his tenure, he has successfully built and sustained relationships with more than 20 community and organizational partners, strengthening opportunities and resources available to the school community.

He also serves as a mentor to Black male students through the Action for Justice Collective, where he provides guidance, support, and consistent encouragement. Known affectionately as “Rey,” Malik is widely recognized for his kindness, reliability, and unwavering willingness to assist wherever needed. He consistently goes above and beyond in support of students and staff alike, making him an essential and deeply valued member of the school community.

Jeremy Turner is a dedicated student leader and advocate focused on building systems of support for marginalized communities. As the leader of BASE (Brothers for Academic and Social Enrichment) and co-leader of his school’s Black Student Union, he mentors younger students and recently developed and taught a class on Black Excellence, fostering spaces centered on identity and empowerment. His commitment to human rights is evidenced by his work with HIAS Pennsylvania, where he assisted refugees from 19 countries in navigating the complex documentation process for green card applications. Academically, Jeremy bridges his passion for economics and finance with social responsibility, seeking to understand and solve the systemic challenges facing under-resourced populations. A three-year varsity captain and student entrepreneur, he exemplifies the self-discipline and moral courage championed by Malcolm X, proving that true empowerment is achieved through consistent, purposeful action.

Anthony Wallace is a graduating senior in the Philadelphia Kappa League who is making a meaningful impact through academic excellence, leadership, and service to others. An exceptional student with aspirations of attending medical school, he is deeply committed to using his education to pursue a career in healthcare and contribute to the well-being of his community.

Within the Kappa League, Anthony leads by example, demonstrating consistency, discipline, and a strong commitment to uplifting his peers. He is widely respected for his integrity, sense of purpose, and reliability both in and beyond the classroom.

Through ongoing community service and mentorship initiatives, Anthony continues to reflect a genuine passion for helping others and creating positive change. Aaron is a paraprofessional at my school.  In addition to being amazing at his job, Aaron supports his school in so many other ways.  He is the first smiling face our students see as they enter the building.  Although he is assigned as a 1:1, he assists all students in need.  Aaron started an after-school club called The Alliance to support students who identify as LGBTQ as well as their allies.  His club is welcome to all.  His students asked for an additional club to support their interest in gaming and Aaron immediately took that on.  He is often known to support his teacher in history lessons and even agreed to teach a lesson called “Know Your Rights” to ninth graders.  The lesson focused on immigration and he prepared it himself.  He also offered to teach a lesson on the Stonewall Riots. He is a role model to all students. 

A high school senior and driven entrepreneur, he is the founder and owner of Candles with Kazz, where he crafts 100% all-natural, eco-friendly soy wax candles with a unique touch. Balancing business with leadership, he stays active in the Leadership Council and Philly Youth Basketball, while honing his professional skills through Work-Based Learning. A natural leader on and off the court, he is dedicated to sustainable growth and uplifting his Philadelphia community.

Tyrique Whitson is a senior at PennWest University, dual majoring in Political Science and Sociology, where he has established himself as a committed student leader and advocate for inclusive governance. He maintains a 3.77 GPA while serving in multiple leadership roles, including Community Assistant, Student Trustee to the PennWest Council of Trustees, Vice President of the Student Government Association, President of Student Association Inc. (SAI), and Vice President of the Rainbow Alliance.

Through these positions, Tyrique has demonstrated a consistent commitment to student voice, shared governance, and institutional accountability. He is known for his composure and sound judgment in high-pressure situations, ranging from residence life concerns to complex policy and governance decisions. Grounded in ethics, integrity, and cultural awareness shaped by his intersecting identities, he leads with purpose while affirming the dignity and perspectives of historically marginalized communities.

Tyrique’s dedication to service and civic engagement is reflected in initiatives that mobilize students toward collective impact, including his coordination of participation in The Big Event, a campus-wide day of service that engaged more than 300 students. His leadership continues to reflect fairness, responsibility, and a sustained commitment to meaningful, community-centered change.

Chase Williams is an outstanding youth leader serving on the We Speak Youth Justice Advisory Board for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Juvenile Diversion Unit. An 18-year-old senior at Central High School, he is preparing to graduate this June and plans to continue his education in college.

Chase serves as a lead facilitator for We Speak, delivering “Know Your Rights” and Juvenile Justice Jeopardy presentations across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Western Pennsylvania. Through these sessions, he engages hundreds of young people in conversations about violence prevention, peer influence, safe and healthy decision-making, and youth rights.

He has also contributed to policy development addressing the relationship between mental health, school absenteeism, and truancy, working alongside peers and Civically Engaged partners. In addition, Chase volunteers in Kensington, distributing food and clothing, and remains actively committed to serving his community.

As a youth voice in focus groups, panels, conferences, and convenings, Chase consistently advocates for his peers with thoughtfulness and integrity. Known for his humor, compassion, loyalty, and sense of responsibility, he is widely respected as both a strong leader and a supportive friend—truly a young man making a difference.

Raphael Wimmer is a dedicated young leader whose excellence spans the arts, academics, and community engagement. A student at Girard Academic Music Program, he is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who performs as a pianist with the school’s jazz band and combo, as well as a singer with Philadelphia’s All City Choir.

Beyond his musical achievements, Raphael serves as Co-Musical Director of the Black Student Union at GAMP, where he helps lead cultural programming and creative expression among his peers. He also contributes to his community as a summer counselor at Germantown Life Enrichment Center and as a youth radio commentator on WFSU 88.9’s 411 Teen program, using his voice to inform and engage others.

Deeply rooted in cultural tradition, Raphael is a percussionist with Omo Kulu Mele African Dance & Drum Ensemble, where he performs and mentors younger participants, modeling discipline, leadership, and pride in cultural identity. Across every space he enters—stage, classroom, and community—Raphael demonstrates integrity, leadership, and a commitment to uplifting others as a young man making a meaningful difference.
