MLK Legacy in Action: Film Screening of “Keep Your Trash”
April 30 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
The Pennsylvania Senate Democrats are hosting a screening of the 1971 documentary “Keep Your Trash,” followed by a discussion on economic justice to close out the 30-day statewide Call to Action on the Crisis of Poverty and Economic Insecurity at the capitol.
The film screening will begin at 4:30 p.m. April 30 and will feature “Keep Your Trash,” which recounts the events surrounding the historic 1968 Memphis Sanitation Workers’ strike and the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as he fought for economic justice and equality across the U.S. Immediately following the screening, Senate Democrats will discuss issues of poverty, economic insecurity and solutions to current issues across Pennsylvania.
During the statewide Call to Action on the Crisis of Poverty and Economic Insecurity, Senate Democrats will address 30 issues related to poverty and economic security members are working on this legislative session. Each piece of legislation, whether it is a minimum wage increase or better access to affordable childcare, is intended to help improve conditions for Pennsylvania’s impoverished communities.
