YEI, a job training and internship program launched in 2008 in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, is designed to provide meaningful employment opportunities for youth.
“I urge all eligible individuals to apply for this very beneficial program,” Hughes said. “The skills and knowledge obtained in these internships can assist in future career and education goals.”
YEI is comprised of three components:
Phase IA, which runs from May 11 - August 21 and Phase IB, which runs from September 14 - December 23, provide paid internships for local college students in the areas of Information Technology, Social Science, Event Planning, and Political Science. In addition to career exposure, participants will learn leadership development skills, job training, career planning, and organizational team building.
Phase II, which runs from June 29 - August 21, involves paid part-time summer employment for youth ages 16-21 at various worksites throughout the 7th Senatorial District. A key component of Phase II focuses on enrichment training and life skills development in the areas of education, finances, and social interaction.
Interested youth and prospective corporate partners are encouraged to contact the YEI Program at 215-879-2536 or YEI2008@aol.com to obtain additional information.
