Senator Hughes Statement on Governor Wolf’s Announcement Regarding “Healthy PA”

HARRISBURG - (February 9th, 2015) Senator Vincent Hughes released the following statement on changes to “Healthy PA” announced today by Governor Tom Wolf:

“I want to praise Governor Tom Wolf for announcing today the first step towards transitioning away from so-called "Healthy PA" to true Medicaid expansion. Currently, there are more than 440,000 Pennsylvanians enrolled in HealthChoices.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, the HealthChoices expansion moves Pennsylvania to a single, comprehensive adult benefit package that provides individuals with enhanced coverage for both physical and behavioral health.

Healthy PA was former Gov. Tom Corbett’s healthcare reform plan, one in which many critics derided for causing clients to lose coverage and for installing certain asset checks and other obstacles.
