Healthy Choice PAHitting the Streets for Quality Health Insurance!

Hello,

Earlier this week, I hit the streets in West Philadelphia along the Market-Frankford Line to spread the word: Low-cost, high quality health insurance is here! Over 500,000 working adults are now eligible for health insurance thanks to the expansion of Medicaid in Pennsylvania under the Affordable Care Act.

I am proud to have led the fight to expand Medicaid in Pennsylvania. Now, it’s time for people to read up, sign up, and get a check up! Check out the video below to learn more about how you can sign up for health insurance for you and your family.

Sincerely,
State Senator Vincent Hughes

Senator Hughes Statement on Governor Wolf’s Announcement Regarding “Healthy PA”

HARRISBURG - (February 9th, 2015) Senator Vincent Hughes released the following statement on changes to “Healthy PA” announced today by Governor Tom Wolf:

“I want to praise Governor Tom Wolf for announcing today the first step towards transitioning away from so-called "Healthy PA" to true Medicaid expansion. Instead of simply accepting more than $4 billion in federal funds to offer more than 500,000 people health insurance in our proven Health Choices system, the former administration chose to create a complicated web of obstacles creating barriers for Pennsylvanians in need of critical health services. This is simply not fair and clean, straightforward Medicaid expansion fixes this injustice.

Health Choices PA! Pennsylvania’s traditional Medicaid expansion is here!

The technical transition from former governor Tom Corbett’s failed Healthy PA plan to HealthChoices — the Wolf Administration’s health care coverage and Medicaid expansion plan that is in accord with the Affordable Care Act — is complete, and the last step is moving roughly half a million Pennsylvanians to the new plan.

Currently, there are more than 440,000 Pennsylvanians enrolled in HealthChoices.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, the HealthChoices expansion moves Pennsylvania to a single, comprehensive adult benefit package that provides individuals with enhanced coverage for both physical and behavioral health.

Gov. Tom Wolf kept a major campaign promise this week and has started the process of repealing Healthy PA and instead accepting federally–funded Medicaid expansion in accordance with the Affordable Care Act.

Healthy PA was former Gov. Tom Corbett’s healthcare reform plan, one in which many critics derided for causing clients to lose coverage and for installing certain asset checks and other obstacles.
