Senator Hughes Welcomes Governor Wolf to 7th Senatorial District in West Philadelphia

I am extremely excited to share that our new Governor, Tom Wolf, joined me yesterday for a visit to the West Philadelphia regional branch of Philadelphia Community College. We had the chance to tour the facility and meet with students, instructors, and administrators. It was a great reminder of what valuable assets our community colleges are to the future of Pennsylvania’s workforce.

That’s why I’m excited that Governor Wolf has proposed increasing funding for community colleges by $15 million in his next state budget. This is an increase of over 7 percent over the past fiscal year. It’s also a significant down payment to reverse the impact of devastating cuts that were imposed on these vital institutions during the previous administration. We desperately need to make these investments so people who want to further their education and job skills can find new opportunities.

You can see the links below for more information our visit to Philadelphia Community College. Please share this e-mail with your friends, family, and co-workers. Together, we can raise awareness about the vital role that community colleges play in providing economic opportunity for all our citizens.

Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf brought his “Jobs That Pay” tour to West Philadelphia today.

Flanked by state senator Vincent Hughes (D-Phila.) and City Council members Jannie Blackwell and Curtis Jones, the governor spoke to automotive tech students on the west regional campus of Community College of Philadelphia.

Under Wolf’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year, CCP could see a funding increase of nearly $2 million. Wolf admits his challenge will be convincing the Republican-dominated legislature to sign off on what sees as an “investment” in the future of young Pennsylvanians.
