Red Cross TagE. Steven was a committed advocate and voice of support for patients battling sickle cell disease. He championed many community initiatives that brought education, funding, and awareness to the cause.

The need for blood is constant. Help the American Red Cross meet the needs of all patients by donating blood this July at a Community of Giving Blood Drive. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects as many as 100,000 people in the U.S., most of them African Americans.

Many patients need a one-time transfusion, but patients who battle sickle cell disease face a lifetime of blood transfusions. Transfusions from blood donors of the same ethnic background are the most beneficial because they have less chance of causing complications for the recipient.

You can help support those living with sickle cell disease by donating blood with the Red Cross. For more information about blood donation and tips for having a successful donation, please visit:
