Philadelphia School District Superintendent Releases Action Plan
The plan outlines the most critical priorities for Philadelphia schools
On January 7, new Philadelphia School District Superintendent Dr. William R. Hite
released an Action Plan for The School District of Philadelphia, outlining the most critical priorities for Philadelphia schools.
Philadelphia School District has seen drastic reductions in support from the state. Governor Corbett’s funding cuts affecting Philadelphia schools since 2010-2011 – $1,313 per student annually – have resulted in the elimination of tutoring programs, academic courses, support services for children with disabilities and English language learners, and other educational basics.
According to Philadelphia School District officials, the Action Plan is built around two anchor goals – improve academic outcomes for students in all schools and ensure the financial stability and sustainability of the School District.
After holding several listening session and community conversations, here is the action plan crafted by Superintendent Hite: http://webgui.phila.k12.pa.us/offices/a/action-plan
Dr. William R. Hite Jr., was named Superintendent of The School District of Philadelphia on June 29, 2012. Dr. Hite’s professional experience includes serving at every level – teacher, principal, central office administrator and Superintendent. Prior to joining the District, Dr. Hite was Superintendent of Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland, the state’s second-largest school district and one of the 25 largest districts nationwide.
