On Tuesday, January 1, I was joined by my family, friends and supporters to be sworn-in to my fifth full term as Senator of the 7th Senatorial District at the Senate swearing in ceremony in the State Capitol in Harrisburg.

It gives me great pleasure to begin another term, continuing to serve the hard-working, committed constituents of the 7th District.

My legislative agenda for the upcoming session will be continuing to put Pennsylvanians back to work through job creation, a solid transportation plan and targeted education funding. I will continue to champion the issues that are most important to Pennsylvania’s working families.

Pennsylvania is facing some serious challenges that we must confront immediately. I am excited and determined to get to work on the business of the people.

As always, my top priority remains job creation, but there is also a serious need to re-examine state gun laws, improve our education system, and make sure our children have a better future.

In November, my colleagues re-elected me to serve as Democratic Chairman of the state Senate Appropriations Committee. This is the second time I was elected to the position by Senate Democrats.

I am honored that my colleagues have once again chosen me to serve as Democratic Chairman of the Appropriations Committee. My Democratic colleagues have trusted me to lead them on appropriations and budget issues and that is very humbling.

The Appropriations Committee is charged with the consideration of legislation that determines how state dollars are budgeted and spent. It is one of the most influential committees in the General Assembly.

There is a tremendous amount of work to do as we continue to rebuild Pennsylvania’s workforce and economy. I look forward to joining my colleagues in the effort to put Pennsylvanians back to work in quality, family-sustaining jobs and creating a brighter economic future for all.
