Direct any questions you may have to Charles Duncan at email@example.com
I invite you all to participate in a LIVE call-in update on where we are in the budget process and the expectations of the Senate Democrats moving forward. This conference call will also allow you to ask questions regarding the $27.6 billion state budget plan passed by the Senate on May 9.
I believe that this budget plan is a good starting point moving forward towards a budget plan that truly reflects the needs of all Pennsylvania citizens.
This budget plan makes several significant funding restorations to many of the programs that Governor Tom Corbett cut in his budget proposal, including basic and higher education, distressed schools, human services programs, hospitals, nursing homes, and programs for the disabled. It also restores funding to the HEMAP program through federal settlement funds.
While this budget plan makes great progress, I remain deeply troubled by the lack of funding to the critically important General Assistance grants and the reductions in Medically Needy only eligibility. I am also concerned about the level of funding for Child Care Services and that there is still no plan to restore adultBasic or important job creation programs.
As the Democratic Appropriations Committee Chair in the Senate, I will continue to fight for a full restoration of this funding in addition to other key investments to grow Pennsylvania’s economy and boost job creation.
Currently, Senate Bill 1466 is in the House of Representatives. As we continue to move forward in this process, I urge you to contact your Representative, Governor Corbett, and myself with your concerns regarding the 2012-13 state budget.
There is still a distance to go before we reach a final budget that is representative of the needs of all Pennsylvania citizens. I will continue to keep you all updated as we move forward in the budget process.
